BreakoutVR will be discontinued except for bugfixes for the forseeable future. We've made the best decision to focus on bigger and better games like... every other XORWIRE game.
The servers will stay up until the game completely dies out.
We've been hard at work on other (better) projects, and even released a new game! This update will clear the game up a little bit before BreakoutVR is put to rest.
BreakoutVR was pretty fun to work on for a little while. I appreciate the huge community we have built together and I hope we can do the same in the future with our new better games :)
Meanwhile, a new game by XORWIRE has released: Stupid Chimp Slop on Meta Quest | Quest VR games | Meta Store
BreakoutVR started off as a "fan" remake of Scary Baboon, proving that I could make it in about a week. Scary Baboon hit the stores around 6 months before, and I couldn't wrap my head around why kids flocked to such a low-effort slopfest.
The game didn't run at all. I gave up.
Then, I had the scummiest idea ever: "get a lotta money from doing exactly what they did". So I did.
BreakoutVR released on December 19th 2024 after doing a few iterations on map & monster designs. It popped off heavily, I didn't even have time to make a Christmas update!
I spent the next couple weeks making a "VIP" bundle that included a soundboard and some cosmetics. People flocked to it like birds. I ended up earning $80k within the next few months.
BreakoutVR was my best success so far, but I wish it wasn't this. In my honest opinion, I wish I never made this game. It is poorly optimised, has a poor moderation system, it's filled with modders, and not even the developers like to work on it. I wish I was known for other stuff like HIGH HORNS and Chemp Physics.
Thanks to the community, we've created wonders! Here's some extra news if you've read this far:
Stupid Chimp Slop's soundtrack was released on Spotify recently. Go listen to "STUPID CHIMP SOUNDTRACK: VOLUME 1"
HIGH HORNS is almost half-way finished
Chemp Physics 2.0 is set to release on its anniversary. It'll introduce a saving system, a new and improved set of tools, new maps, and native mod support!
